Easy homemade unagi sauce recipe

What is the Unagi Sauce? 

Unagi Sauce is a specific sort of thick, sweet sauce based on soya. It is commonly used on grilled eel or various dishes that are served with grilled eel. You can buy a commercial branded sauce in a store.. ..as unique as you are, you can create the best and really simple unagi sauce at home!  

Unagi sauce recipe, step by step  

Cooking time: 20 min

Servings: 100 ml

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup soya sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Mirin (sweet sake)
  • 1/4 cup Sake 

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together, and pour into a small pan. Put on a low to medium heat and bring it to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, reduce heat to a very low heat and continue simmering for about 10 to 15 minutes. 
  3. Once sugar is fully dissolved, let the sauce cool, and keep it in your refrigerator for use. The sauce will thicken more as it cools down.
